Hey there, the name’s Lukas, but I guess you could call me Lukas or Luke. I'm twenty-five years old and currently making my way through life as a local.
Everyone who knows me will be able to say that I'm impulsive, a perfectionist, a work-a-holic, and stubborn, but that I'm also pretty empathetic, congenial, fun-loving, open-minded. They'd warn you that I love photography, travel, humanitarianism, thrill-seeking adventures, running and that I loathe liars, guys who hang around my sisters, corrupt systems of government, arrogance, and sellouts.
To sum me up: I’m a daredevil with a gypsy soul and a humanitarian heart.
But that is not enough for you is it? You ask for more like Oliver Twist in the orphanage. You want more, I can give you more.
I love to have a good time, but when it comes down to it, I can get a job done, and it is usually done exceeding standards. I have a very close relationship to my family and the few friends that I do have. I consider myself to have a gypsy soul just because I am always on the go. I am unsettled in my life, and this makes my mother unhappy to a certain extent. I know what I want, I just figure and know that I will settle down when the timing is right.
My sisters are my best friends and my inspiration. Two may be younger and one only ten minutes older, but they are a big motivation for what I do. I was became a fully fledged humanitarian during high school when a friend asked me to go and work at the local orphanage. After a chain of events, my heart was captured by those less fortunate than I.
I am an impulsive and stubborn perfectionist. This means I can and I do make rash decisions that I don’t back off of until the end result is met. In my line of work, my impulsiveness and stubbornness can get me into trouble but also get me ahead of the game. The fact that I am a perfectionist is only the icing on top of the cake. I’d have to thank my parents for being a perfectionist. I’m not complaining, it doesn’t bother me none. It just usually bothers those I work with because I go the extra mile to get the job done when it could have been finished earlier.
I have a knack for meeting people and instantly clicking with them. I can make friends easily.
I love to take photographs of my surroundings. I love my job as a photojournalist. I have the perfect job that I get to travel the world, experience the greatest things in life and share my experience with the world. I am grateful and blessed with my occupation.
Hell. What else is there to say...? I'm the second born and only male of four and often people tell me I look like Sean Faris, but I consider that to be a little farfetched, don't you think...?
I was born on January 10, 1987, ten minutes after my sister was born. I grew up in London with my sister and a nanny. After two years, my second sister was born and a year and a half later my third sister was born. I am on the only guy in a sea of women. I say that because I was surrounded by my three sisters and the nanny, Rebecca. The parents were not around much. They had a savvy business mind to travel and make deals internationally. It sucked cause they missed a lot of birthdays, recitals, a few Christmas’s and things of the like.
After a few years I got over the idea of having dear of mom and dad around. I don’t resent them too much. I just wish they could have been there more – if not for me, then for my sisters at least. Hell, I got shaving lessons from Alfred, the butler.
On my twelfth birthday I received my first camera. Actually, I got a hold of a camera and never let go. I would take pictures of almost everything I saw. No one stopped me; I had the world at my lens cap. During my teenage years, I became the protective older brother. I would beat any boy up that looked at my sisters wrong. I was fearless. I graduated from high school without incident and I left for college in the states. I attended Northwestern University and majored in Photojournalism.
College life was pretty normal. My first year in college, my roommate, Isaac, and I got involved in volunteer work. We started locally and then got involved with a group who worked internationally. During the break between the freshman and sophomore years I traveled to Port-au-Prince, Haiti on a medical mission. I have to say that I fell in love with the country. It was a mixture of beauty and chaos. It was a life altering experience for Isaac and me both. Isaac decided then and there that he wanted to be a missionary. It was on this mission trip that I decided what I wanted to do with my life – travel and photograph life beyond the borders of my own life. I felt that with my camera I could conquer the world, or at least capture the world and showcase its beauty.
During college I traveled back to Haiti each year; I would also go home every holiday and small break. For my senior exhibit, I showcased the best photos that I had taken over the past four years. I got rave reviews from my “Beautiful Chaos” exhibit.
After graduating from Northwestern at the age of twenty two, I secured a job with CNN for two years and became their field photographer. During that two year span of time I traveled to Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Sudan to the dismay of my sisters. What I saw in those places was eye opening and I enjoyed my time.
Recently I procured a job with BBC as a photojournalist. I was excited about this job because it means I get to go home for a while. It has allowed me to move back to London.
For those of you wondering, I am single. However, I am not looking for anything serious, unless something serious is in my future. I feel I am too unsettled to have any semblance of a romantic relationship. I currently live in a flat on Jackson Street. It is suitable enough, two bedrooms, one bath, a kitchen, dining room, and living room.
